Making Some Changes to My Substack
I’m refocusing my Substack on Quick Tips, and a more streamlined newsletter. Expect more useful content, and a format that works better for both of us.
Since jumping back into Substack, my focus has been figuring out what’s realistic—what I have time for and how it best supports my home business, KevinTheTechGuy.ca.
Finding the Right Flow
I knew things would evolve, and they have. A few weeks ago, I started a Monday series called "3 Things To Try" and a Friday series called "3 Things To Know." I’ve also been sharing tech news, recommending great podcast episodes (mine and others), and sprinkling in things I think you’d find interesting. But I find I’m struggling to come up with content.
What I’m Focusing On
I post Quick Tips as often as I can, along with tech news and deeper explainers when time allows. Going forward, I’ll be focusing mainly on Quick Tips, and eventually, I’ll mix in short related videos.
The long-form explainers? Those are as much for me as they are for you—they help me dive deeper into a topic, and if I’m learning something useful, I want to tease that content on my website as well.
How the Newsletter Fits In
On Substack, I’ll be sending out a regular newsletter that highlights my latest blog posts, along with a few tech news stories and other interesting finds. Ideally, I’d like to do this weekly, but I won’t force it just for the sake of a schedule. I’ll also send out quick blog post teasers to keep people in the loop about new content.
Why I’m Doing This
There’s no shortage of tech newsletters, podcasts, and daily news articles out there, and I love many of them. But honestly? A lot of what gets published isn’t that relevant to regular people who just want their tech to work, or what is relevant in their daily lives.
It feels like many journalists are often assigned to and covering things to fill space, share their take, or hit SEO and ad goals, rather than focusing more on what actually helps people in their day-to-day lives and making that content easier to find.
I get it - SEO and ads pay the bills and staff, which is why I’m hoping you’ll support my work directly instead.
My Goal: Making Tech Make Sense
At the end of the day, my goal is simple: remind people what I’m doing at KevinTheTechGuy.ca, share my love for tech, and help everyday users get more value from the tools they rely on. If I can make tech a little easier to understand and use, maybe even improve how we work and communicate, then I’m doing what I set out to do.
Thanks for being here and following along!
