Quick Tip: Free Up a TON of Storage on Your iPhone!
Apps on your phone are downloading quite a bit as you use them. Here's how to clear up that clutter!
If your iPhone is running low on space, it isn’t always because of your photos, videos, or music. Many apps store “Documents and Data,” which is simply cached or temporary files.
These files build up in the background the same way a computer collects temporary files over time while surfing the internet. They aren’t essential for the app to function, but they can occupy a surprising amount of space. The app will just download what it needs again as you use it.
Clearing them out is a safe way to get storage back without removing the app itself.
Here’s how to check and clear it:
Open Settings
Tap General
Tap iPhone Storage
Review the list of apps sorted by how much space they’re using
Tap on any app to view both the size of the app itself and the cached data it’s holding
At this point, you have two options:
Offload the app if that option is available
Removes the cached files
Offloads the app and its related settings to your iCloud account to be installed again in the future, freeing up space on your iPhone right now
Delete and reinstall the app
Completely clears all temporary files
Requires you to sign back in
The app itself works exactly the same afterward
By taking a few minutes to clear out cached files, you can free up storage space that’s otherwise wasted. It doesn’t change how your apps function, but it gives you more room for the things you actually want to keep.
