Start Here: Welcome to Kevin The Tech Guy!
This is a quick guide to what this website and my home business is all about, from free posts anyone can read, to the benefits paid subscribers have access to.
Start Here
Welcome! My name is Kevin, and I’m glad you’re here.
For decades, I worked with residential and small business clients, helping them solve everyday computer problems through on-site visits, remote support, and eventually by creating written guides and videos. I’ve always enjoyed taking complicated technology and explaining it in plain English so that anyone can follow along.
This website is a collection of that work, and a tribute to it, and to those who have struggled to find effective solutions for their tech problems when so much is driven by SEO and advertising in this day and age.
Whether you’re trying to make Windows usable, secure your online accounts, learn about backups, or solve another frustrating tech problem, my goal has always been the same: create clear, practical guides that don’t assume you’re a computer expert.
TL;DR
👋 Hi! I’m Kevin, and this website is now an archive of the technology guides and tutorials I’ve created over the years.
💻 You’ll find practical, plain-English guides covering Windows, online security, backups, and other everyday tech topics.
📚 Although no new content is being added beyond June 2026, I hope these resources continue to help people for years to come.
❤️ Due to severe chronic IBS, I have retired from computer repair and have been approved for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), which I will receive by the end of June 2026.
☕ If you’d like to support my work, paid subscriptions are available again, and many of my PDF guides can be purchased individually through the Shop page. More information is available on the Support My Work page.
🙏 Thank you for reading, for your support over the years, and I hope something here makes technology a little easier for you.
What You’ll Find Here
Although no new content is being added beyond June 2026, there is an archive of How To Guides, Quick Tips, and downloadable guides that I hope will continue helping people for years to come.
You’ll find:
Windows how-to guides and troubleshooting tips
Online security and privacy tutorials
Backup and data protection guides
Practical technology advice written in plain English
Downloadable PDF guides for many topics
Think of this website as a library of practical technology help rather than an actively updated blog.
Why There Won’t Be New Content
After four years of trying different ways to build this business, I’ve reached a point where the limits of my serious health issues are no longer something I can work around.
I experimented with different business models, changed my approach a few times, and gave myself every opportunity to find a version of this work that fit within the reality of living with severe chronic IBS. Unfortunately, it never became financially sustainable, and my health continued to decline.
The online technology world has also changed dramatically. Helpful and free information is more abundant than ever, videos dominate most platforms, AI has become a common source of technical advice, and it’s increasingly difficult for independent creators to earn enough to support themselves.
Creating high-quality content consistently requires an enormous amount of time and energy, and my health simply does not allow for it. In fact, many creators often burn out without a team helping them.
That said, I never stopped loving this work.
Writing guides, explaining technology clearly, and helping people solve problems has been one of the most rewarding parts of my life. None of it ever felt like a chore.
Looking Ahead
I have been approved for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) in Canada due to my Due to chronic illness and will receive it by the end of June 2026.
Knowing that my time is limited has meant making some difficult decisions about where to focus the energy I have left.
My priorities became making sure my Mom has everything she needs after I’m gone, finishing my memoir, spending time on the things that matter most to me, and leaving behind resources that continue helping others long after I’m no longer here.
If You Only Knew: Losing My Dad to Multiple System Atrophy: A Tale of Grief and Gratitude
If You Only Knew is a raw and deeply personal account of what happens when a terminal illness tears through a family’s life and leaves no part of it untouched. When Kevin’s father was diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy, he was thrust into a world of caregiving, advocacy, medical systems, constant crisis, and relentless decline. What follows is not o…
Because of that, no new content will be published beyond June 2026, there will no longer be an email newsletter, and I have permanently retired from computer repair services.
Supporting My Work
Although this website is now an archive, many of the guides remain useful and relevant.
If you’d like to support the work I have created, paid subscriptions are available once again, and I’ve also made many of my downloadable PDF guides available individually through my Shop page. One-time donations can also be made. My Mom will receive any money made to assist in the enjoyment of her retirement years.
Please see the Support My Work page for subscription details, or visit the Shop if you’d like to purchase individual guides.
Any support received helps ensure this work remains available online, and it will also help support my Mom after I’m gone.
Thank You
Whether you’ve been following my work for years or you’ve only just arrived, thank you for visiting.
I genuinely hope something on this website makes technology a little less frustrating and a little more approachable. If one of these guides saves you time, solves a problem, or gives you the confidence to tackle something yourself, then it has accomplished exactly what I hoped it would.
Thank you for reading, and thank you to everyone who supported my work over the years.
